Not a 'regular' gear cycle story

During my childhood, I had two categories of friends, no, not male and female. I grew up with boys and hence I belonged to the male crowd games only. So there were two categories, one category had cycles that had two wheels and a handle-bar (if not broken). The other category were ‘elites’ who had cycles with gears. And you ought to gape in awe, when somebody tells you that they have a gear cycle. Why? It is a practice. No questions asked.
And some go the extra mile, they have rear view mirrors and a water bottle holder, because you got to show off. I’m also told that to change from one gear to another, you have to exert a pressure and maintain a speed to have the wheels rolling. That is pure Maths, they claim. However, none of them gave me their geared possessions for a ride. Because they believed it wasn’t for the female body. Hence, I came back home and demanded for a gear cycle. Being the mistake child (second child) of my parents, I always got second-hand products, be it cycle or toys. Now you know where this is going, my demands weren’t resolved because I already have one brand new old cycle of my sister which was bought when I had barely started crawling.
That was the time when helmets were made mandatory. Since my head was smaller than my sister’s I got a new helmet. Lottery I know! It resembled the ones you use while riding cycles or roller skates and hence I wore it while riding my brand new old cycle. The elites saw me and they wanted to try it on. I offered them the helmet in return for a ride on the elite cycle. Wohoo! I got a chance to ride it. Hence, helmets can do wonders. Also, they protect your heads, be it while riding bikes or when your sibling hits you with a bat (I haven’t gotten hit with a bat yet by my sibling, have you?)
Moral of the story: Do not ignore your helmets. Period.
PS: I wrote this as a blog today because it has been years since I posted something. The above write-up was a part of an assignment I had submitted during my job hunt. The assignment was to write about something that I don’t have any idea about with zero research and make it interesting. Do you think it has served the purpose?
